I think the most important aspect of custom etching is the artwork. Some people have a clear vision of what they want and others have no idea where to even start designing something. It doesn't matter, we'll figure it out.
If you are not the creative type I'd be glad to put something together for you. Tell me about the person you're getting the gift for or if this is for a special occasion let me know the details about it. Things like "Jack is a happy go lucky guy" or "this is a very formal event" are very helpful to the process. Using images related to someones favorite pastime is the best way to personalize your etching so tell me what they like to do. For simple clipart images and text I don't charge for the artwork. If you want a complex design we'll figure out a price for that.
If you know what you want etched just draw it up or write up a description and send it to me. The saying "a picture is worth a thousand words" really is true. You don't have to be a great artist, you just need to be able to get your ideas across to me. A photo of a drawing is better than nothing.

Once your artwork is traced or converted you'll be able to send it directly to printers, patch makers, embroiders, silk screeners and decal makers. - Keep in mind while designing your artwork that it needs to be black and white only.
- Color images can be converted but in the end they have to be black and white.
- All fonts in your artwork need to be converted to outlines or the names of the fonts given to me.
- I like to have the artwork in a vector format, ai, eps, pdf but I can work around that.
- If you can't export the artwork to a vector then a large jpg image, 2000 pixels wide and at least 300 dots per inch, can usually be auto traced accurately.
- Don't be afraid to try.
